William E. Spears, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away Thursday night, May 4, 2023 at Southeast Health following a brief illness. He was 68.


A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood with Brother Tommy White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.


Mr. Spears was born March 1, 1955 in North Miami, Florida to William E. and Lillian Jane Ackerman Spears. He grew up in North Miami where he graduated from High School. He later resided in Sebastian, Florida and Grant, Florida where he owned a general contracting company for 25 years. He was a condo project manager in Panama City Beach for several years while living in Cottondale. He then moved to Marianna where he retired and spent 10 years. Following hurricane Michael, he and his family relocated to Cottonwood where he lived the remainder of his life.


He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Spears and Sharon Prentice.


Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Deborah Spears; two daughters, Tara Susan Spears and Heather Michelle Spears, all of Cottonwood; a sister, Debra Fortin of Ft. Lauderdale.
