William Edgar Griswold

William Edgar Griswold, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 64. Born on June 10, 1959, in Yale, Michigan, Bill was a man whose hands were rarely still, always finding joy in the act of creating, fixing, and improving everything around him.

Bill's journey led him from the cool climes of Michigan to the warm heart of Dothan in 1975, where he would go on to build a life rich in love, laughter, and the satisfaction of a job well done. For 26 years, he dedicated his skills and work ethic to Box USA International Paper, where his colleagues respected him as much for his reliable nature as for his quick wit and ready smile.

Those who knew Bill understood that his true passions lay outside the walls of any workplace. He and his wife, Sharon enjoyed fishing, finding peace in the quiet of the waters. His love for working on cars was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his ability to solve problems and his respect for the craftsmanship of bygone eras. Bill's formative years were spent helping his father at the family gas station, a time that not only honed his mechanical abilities but also instilled in him the values of hard work and service to others.

Bill's legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 43 years, Sharon Roney Griswold, and his daughters, Angel and Traci Griswold, who will forever cherish the lessons he taught them, both in words and through the example of his life. His brothers, Mike Griswold (Sandy) and Doug Kocian, along with his sister, Vicki Griswold, will remember Bill as the cornerstone of a family built on mutual support and enduring affection.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Francis Ward Griswold, Jr. and Arleen Ann Vansickle Griswold, who instilled in him the virtues of integrity and kindness that he carried throughout his life.

To say that Bill was handy would be an understatement; he was the personification of ingenuity and resourcefulness. His ability to fix anything that was broken, to understand the workings of the most complex engines, and to always have the right tool for the job were traits that not only made him indispensable to those around him but also endeared him to a community that often sought his expertise and advice.

Bill's life was one of quiet achievement and steadfast love. He was a man who spoke through his actions, a provider who ensured that his family wanted for nothing, and a friend who could always be counted on. His absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but the memories of his unwavering spirit and the stories of his countless adventures will continue to inspire and comfort us.
