William Franklin Owen, a resident of Wicksburg passed away June 20, 2023, at home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Glover Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:15 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Owen was born in Fayetteville, N.C. on April 14, 1946, the son of the late William Broda Owen and Heneritta Owen O’Dell. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and Troy University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He joined the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam as a reconnaissance pilot in a unit known as the “Catkillers,” receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, 12 awarded Air Medals, the Bronze Star Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of Captain. He held several jobs over the years in the magazine and casino business in Mississippi and retired from Player One Amusement Company.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Debra Driskell Owen; two daughters, Kayce (Christopher) Carey, and Kristen Owen; grandchildren, Malcolm B. (Alexandra) Carey, William Carey, Madelyn Carey, McKenna Carey, Lane (Falon) Brumfield, Luke (Olivia) Brumfield, Orry Brumfield; bonus grandchild, James (Adrienne) Brumfield; great-grandchildren, Cash, Presley, Adeline, Cullen, and Raynor Brumfield; his sister, Jean Wiehl of Raleigh, N.C.; bonus sisters, Sherry Phillips and Creola Martin of Fayetteville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
