HEADLAND. . .Willie Leo (Bill) Bulger, a resident of Headland, died late Monday morning, September 24, 2012, at his home. He was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 27, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Burdeshaw-Solomon Community Center, 107 Boynton Street, Headland, AL 36345.


            Born in Henry County, near Clopton, to John Henry and Danie Wright Bulger, Mr. Bulger was reared in the Tumbleton Community. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1940 and served in combat with the 5th Infantry Division from Normandy through Northern France to the Ardennes Forest, receiving numerous commendations including the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 1 Silver Star. In 1948, Mr. Bulger reentered military service in the U. S. Air Force and served until 1966, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. While serving in the Air Force, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star and the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.


            After his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Bulger was employed by the City of Orlando Finance Department as a Purchasing Manager, and attended Valencia Community College, receiving an Associate of Arts Degree. While a resident of Orlando, he served as President of AARP Chapter No. 3696. He and his wife returned to Headland in 1992, where he was active in the Burdeshaw-Solomon Community Center, the Headland United Methodist Church and its Curry Woods Men’s Bible Class. Mr. Bulger also served as a Past President of the Headland Lions Club.


            Mr. Bulger was preceded in death by daughter in law, Diane Kennedy Bulger, a sister, Leila Bradley and two brothers, Guy and Daniel Bulger.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Louise Tyler Bulger, Headland; two daughters, Delores Bulger Tucker and husband, Tommy, Savannah, GA; and Debbie Bulger Holman and husband, W. Russell Holman, Jr., Headland; a son, Bill Bulger, Atlanta, GA; a sister, Jeanie Bulger, Brown’s Crossroads community of Henry County; three grandchildren, Pamela Mount (Stephen), Florence, S.C.; Dr. Cathy Rice (Andrew), Hoover, AL; and Michelle Mabery (James), Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Mount, Tucker Mount, Tucker Rice and Liam Rice.
