With profound grief, we announce the passing of Virginia “Tiny” Matthews, 83, on Friday, April 23, 2021. Tiny was born December 8, 1937 to Verna Mae and Raymond Johnson in Henry County, Alabama. She had many siblings, but once Sara (Johnson) Smith came along- so had her eternal best friend. Her second best friend appeared in James “J.D.”Matthews, Tiny’s late husband of 57 years. Marrying after only two weeks of knowing one another, they went on to build a wonderful life including 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren- all of whom they loved deeply. 

 

Beyond everything, Tiny was a devout child of God. She enjoyed His creation of nature fervently. Tiny loved tending her garden, watching the birds, and looking for yellow butterflies. She was the BEST mother and grandmother. Her door was always open, she always had snuggles to give, and there was always a meal to be shared.

 

The Memorial/Burial will be held Thursday, May 6th at Barrancas National Cemetery within the Naval Air Station of Pensacola, Florida from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in her honor, would be appreciated.
