COLUMBIA…Yvonne Faircloth Lewis, a resident of Columbia, died late Monday night, May 3, 2021, at her home. She was 84.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 6, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Judy Dyson and Pastor Vann Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday in the mortuary chapel.

Mrs. Von was born and reared in Donalsonville, Georgia, daughter of the late Jim Tom Faircloth and Bertha Lee Barber Faircloth. She moved to Columbia in 1969 upon the marriage of her loving husband, Joe Lewis, who died in March of 2020 after 51 years of marriage. Mr. Joe preached and Mrs. Von was always by his side. They formed a gospel group known as The Lewis Family in which she sang along with her husband, her daughters, Peggy and Jean, and her son, Larry, who played bass and drums. She was employed with Judy Bond in Columbia from 1969-1985 until the plant closed. Mrs. Von also worked at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear plant and retired from General Cigar, later known as Swedish Match. Mrs. Von loved camping, fishing, growing and watching her flowers along with her daughter, Therisa, and visiting the mountains which she last went during the summer of 2020 with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved decorating at Christmas. Mrs. Von and her husband were known to help several people as needed. She was well known for baking pound cakes and sharing them with others. Mrs. Von made her famous dressing for the holidays and always made sure to make her family’s favorite foods: cookies for her grandson, Kevin Elliott, banana pudding for Kevin and her sons-in-law, Paul and Ed, special chicken casserole for Hannah and whatever else was requested. Mrs. Von treasured her satsuma tree from her son, Larry, planted in March 2021. She loved sewing for her granddaughter, Denise, and her grandson, Joey Elliott, who would always make her laugh. Mrs. Von loved her Lord and family dearly. She attended Shady Grove Holiness Church. Her final eight months of life was made better by her caregiver and daughter, Peggy, who was very devoted to her comfort and tended to her every need as her health declined. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Von was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Lewis, three sisters, Laurue Murkerson, Dorothy Nell Anglin and Lottie Turner, three brothers, Ralph Faircloth, Ervin Faircloth and Hubert Faircloth, and her step-father who helped to raise her, Riley C. Hicks.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Peggy Brannon (Paul), Columbia; Therisa Whigham (Ed), Dothan; a son, Larry Earnest (Norma), Dothan; a step-daughter, Ann Henderson, Webb; a sister, Annie Joyce Oder, Tallahassee, FL; nine grandchildren,  Denise Knight (Moris), Joey Elliott (Teisha), Kevin Elliott, Hannah Whigham, Rachel Whigham, Melinda Sands, Stacey Green (Jason), Jason Earnest and Wesley Holland (Jamie); fifteen great-grandchildren, Brandon Jackson (Destiny), Devin Fields (Jolie), Langston Fisher Elliott, Amaya Elliott, Angel Gilmore, Josh Woodham, Elijah Woodham, Madison Dykes (Trevor) and their son Camden, Ashton Scearce (Kaylee) and their daughter, Brinley, Parker Scearce, Grace Williams, Brantley Green, Olivia Holland, Sophia Holland, Charlotte Holland; one great-great-granddaughter, Kinley Jackson.
