Yvonne Moseley Averett Williams fought a courageous battle against covid pneumonia, but gained her Heavenly wings on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021.

Yvonne was born on Dec. 11, 1940, making her 80 years and one month of age. She is preceded in death by her biological father, Ralph Moseley; her mother and step-father, Una and Watson Byrd; her first husband, Sidney (Sid) Averett; a son, Len Averett; her half-brother, Billy Byrd; and her second husband, Charles Williams.

Yvonne’s passion in life was helping people, especially the elderly. She worked as a home health aide for the State Health Department of Alabama until she retired. After her retirement, she worked for several home health agencies as a caregiver for elderly patients. She almost always fell in love with her patients and their families; and they fell in love with her. Many of the patients would ask that she be the one and only caregiver the agencies would send out. She had continued to work full-time until August of 2020 when an accident at her job site caused her severe injuries and she was no longer able to work.

Another way she loved to help family and friends was to cook their favorite dishes and give them. Once she knew there was a dish she made that you loved, you were going to get that many times. She has made countless sweet potato casseroles, chicken salads, tea cakes, cakes, and pecan pies!

She was adamant about being active, and enjoyed going to the gym on a regular basis. She is best known, however, for her love of flowers and plants. If you knew her well, you knew she much preferred to be outside working in her plants. Her yard would always be filled with blooming plants that were the envy of the neighborhoods. She definitely inherited her mother’s love of flowers! She was proud to be a Master Gardener, and she derived much pleasure and satisfaction from watching the plants and flowers grow.

She is survived by a daughter, Machelle Averett; a step son, Steve (Becky) Averett; two sisters, Martha (Alan) Chisum and Christine (Mike) Penuel; six grandchildren: Dale (Deena) Averett, Sidney Griswold, Robert Len Averett Jr., John Austin Thomas, Haley Thomas and Lacey Coppage; and three great-grandchildren: Eli Averett, Abbigail Averett and Noah Gatlin. She is also survived by nephews and a host of cousins.

It was Yvonne’s life-long desire to have her body donated to science so that others could benefit from any knowledge gained from the study of her body. She always said she wanted to help people in her final way. Unfortunately due to the covid virus, she was not able to have that wish granted. Cremation arrangements will be made by Sorrell’s Funeral Home in Enterprise.

Due to the high numbers of covid cases currently in the community, and a lack of the vaccines available, as well as other extenuating circumstances, a celebration of life service will be held at a date in the future.

While the family and friends will miss her, we know she is no longer in pain, and is now basking in the glory of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved with all her heart and soul.

Memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 1947 Broad Street, Headland, AL 36345
